Peer review process

Peer Review Process

Review system:
Every manuscript received by REXE for possible publication undergoes a double-blind peer review system, which means that neither reviewers nor authors know each other's identity, so as to ensure that manuscripts are assessed solely on their academic merit. The process involves sending the manuscript to two external reviewers with expertise in the subject addressed.

Outcome of the review:
The decisions issued by reviewers may be as follows:

  • Accept without changes
  • Accept with minor revisions
  • Accept with major revisions
  • Reject

If both reviewers recommend rejection, the manuscript will not continue through the journal's editorial process. This decision will be communicated to the author by e-mail, together with the corresponding review reports.

If one reviewer recommends rejection and the other recommends acceptance with major revisions, the manuscript will not continue through the journal's editorial process.

If one reviewer recommends acceptance (with or without minor revisions) and the other recommends rejection, the manuscript will be sent to a third reviewer for an additional assessment.

If the manuscript is accepted without changes, with minor revisions or with major revisions, the review reports will be sent to the author so that the corresponding corrections can be made, with the double-blind review system.

  • In the case of minor revisions, authors will have 15 working days to submit the corrected version.
  • In the case of major revisions, authors will have 30 working days to submit the revised version incorporating the changes requested.

Where authors are required to make corrections, the revised version must be submitted together with a document explaining in detail the changes made in response to the reviewers' comments. This document must be entitled “Corrections Report”.
