Percepciones de estudiantes universitarios chilenos sobre enseñanza explícita de elementos de lengua y el uso de metalenguaje en el aula de Inglés como Lengua Extrajera

La enseñanza explícita de los elementos que componen una lengua extranjera sigue siendo un tema de debate tanto en el ámbito académico como en el pedagógico, generando posturas encontradas entre investigadores y docentes en torno a su eficacia y aplicabilidad en el aula. Este estudio explora la percepción de 126 estudiantes universitarios chilenos sobre la explicación explícita de la gramática y el uso de metalenguaje en la enseñanza del inglés como lengua extranjera (ILE). Mediante una escala de diferenciales semánticos complementada con preguntas abiertas, se constató una valoración generalizada y sostenida de estos enfoques: los participantes consideran que las explicaciones explícitas facilitan la comprensión del porqué y el cómo de elementos lingüísticos (gramática, vocabulario, pronunciación) y constituyen una base para un uso más preciso del idioma. Los encuestados atribuyen a la enseñanza explícita efectos positivos en las cuatro habilidades comunicativas, con impacto notable en la expresión oral y la pronunciación. Respecto a expectativas pedagógicas, el 57,1% solicitó un aumento en las explicaciones explícitas, mientras que el 25,4% prefirió mantener el nivel actual. Los hallazgos convergen con estudios previos y sugieren que, desde la perspectiva estudiantil, la explicación explícita y el metalenguaje son metodologías percibidas como esenciales para el aprendizaje efectivo del ILE. Además de lo anterior, un 65,1% de los participantes manifestó preferir que las explicaciones de gramática, vocabulario y pronunciación se realicen primero en inglés y luego en español.
